This is me

This is me.  I like to chase light and capturing it’s beauty as it wraps, highlights, provides depth, warmth, and coolness from a drop of water on a flower petal to the spray of crashing ocean waves.  This is what brings me happiness.  Sharing this beauty brings me joy.

I have had a camera in my hand since I was 11 years old.  Did I just say that?  How cliche – ugh.  True enough, my first was the Kodak 110 with flash cube.  I’ve upgraded a few times since then… 

Self-taught, photography has been a passion as well as a creative outlet allowing me to catch incredible moments in time, hidden wonders in our world, and the beauty concealed within.

I am a pediatric cardiac surgical nurse by day (and some nights).  I love the teamwork, the challenges we face together and the outcomes of helping children and families live life. I’m an empath by nature, enhanced by the birth of my own children. I get to witness through a small window of time, the journeys of my patients and their families. Emotionally challenging and draining at times, I have found an escape and outlet in photography.

My Journey

I have a friend, Rita, who photographed my two boys when they were first born.  She’s incredibly talented and somewhere along the line she saw some images that I had taken and suggested I might explore diving into the world of photography professionally.  And so I did.  Inspired by the greats, Annie Leibovitz, Mark Seliger, Ansel Adams (and Rita of course!) to name a few, I started out shooting portraits and expanded into wedding, travel, product, and food photography, – you can see some of my endeavors here.

As much as I have enjoyed capturing moments in time for wonderful clients (I still shoot food and product images because that is just fun), I came to realize my photographic aspirations were leading me in another direction.  And so began my journey into fine art photography.  From capturing the delicacy of flowers, to sitting in the middle of a sunflower field capturing bees, I found a new and seemingly never ending, always changing world to capture.  I love the challenge of catching that bee mid-flight, stopping the ocean, peak-wave or, just sitting watching the sun set over rolling waves grabbing it as it dips behind clouds on the horizon.  I’m an espace artist., escaping from the often troubled world to hunt for its hidden beauty.
