The Need for Sunshine and Water
The Need for Sunshine and Water are both essential to life. Always in January/February in the great PNW, the need for sunshine kind of outweighs the need for water LOL! I am pretty much over the water aspect (rain and drizzle) and this is when I go digging through the archives to take me back to warmer days.
This shot was taken on my trip back to see my friends, Michael and Fred, and their horse farm. Michael and I hopped in the car one day and hit the road. He has the patience of a saint as I kept saying “pull over!” about every half mile. There was so much to capture! As I’ve said before, I have this love of water (not the kind that falls from the sky, unless it’s accompanied by bolts of lightning and claps of thunder – then I’m all over that…), especially reflections. We were cruising through the back roads and little towns on a gorgeous sunny fall day when I saw this in a flash and yelled “pull over!” Climbing through some woods I came upon this shot. I love that you can’t see the house behind the trees, but only in the reflection of the water.
I hope this shot warms you up if you are in need of sunshine and a reminds you that warm days are on the way.
Are You Hungry? Spicy Tomato Bisque with Fresh Goat Cheese
It’s a cold rainy Pacific Northwest winter day. Or as I like to call it, the perfect soup day. One of my passions in photography is shooting food. One of my goals is obvious – to make you hungry (or to entice you to try something new). And so here we go with one of my favorite cold weather recipes – Spice Tomato Bisque with Goat Cheese. Are you hungry yet?
Inspired by my friends, Michael and Fred who I visited last fall at their horse farm https://www.facebook.com/rockawayhorsefarm/. I spent the most glorious week at the peak of fall color in New Hampshire with them. Friends for years, with many adventures under our belts (beekeeping, beach house fun, tornados, and shenanigans in the OR) they moved away to the East Coast and bought the most exquisite horse farm. Set in quintessential charm of New England they are living a dream. They’ve 9 horses, 4 dogs, 1 cat, and a bunch of chickens (and I’m still trying to convince them they need some pygmy goats because, why not?). During my visit, they fed me quite well and this was one of our meals that I can’t get enough of. I had the most fabulous visit. I can’t wait until later this year to do it all over again and hopefully capture a hunt.
If nothing else, I hope this image entices you enough to give this Spicy Tomato Bisque with Goat Cheese a try – it’s SUPER easy too! YUM!
What if? Blending photography & graphic art to create new worlds
I like to ask myself, what if? And then take it one step further by blending my photography and graphic art to create new worlds. I can get lost for hours in “answering” this question which has led me to my What If series. Driving on long road trips, flying on long airline trips, at night when I can’t sleep, even sitting at lunch (a therapeutic way to escape some of the stresses of surgical nursing) my mind takes me to ethereal worlds and what could be – we can’t be alone in all the universes out there, right? Gaining inspiration from books (Tolkien!) and film (my latest obsession being Avatar, The Way of Water), along with my love of the lush jungle, flowers, and animals, I have LOTS of image boards created. I just need to get them made.
I took an online course at https://www.domestika.org/en/ricardoluevanos and learned a LOT of techniques to bring my worlds to life. Domestika has so many classes with such talented artists. If you are at all in need of inspiration, head on over to https://www.domestika.org/en
This piece came about as a challenge after I posted on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/p/CdRIQ6XPJif/ an image of a flamingo with leopard skin. One follower replied with “I’m just thinking of the other side of the coin… a pink feathered leopard” Challenge met! I’ll post my flamingo here soon.
Hope you enjoy this one!
Happy New Year! Take 2…
Good Grief! It’s been a year since my last blog post – that’s embarrassing! New Year’s Resolution – blog more than once a year… So here goes! I previously posted how I am drawn to water. Here is some proof – three times a year, King Tides come to the Pacific Northwest coast and I stand ready (with about another 40 or so wave-paparazzi) to shoot to our hearts delight. This last King Tide didn’t bring the massive waves that I’ve shot before, but it sure didn’t disappoint.
